This is my first game-ready character that created using a special texturing technique called ILM Map, a method used by Arc System Works to achieve the stylized NPR anime look seen in Guilty Gear Xrd.
The character is based on a concept art by YEB:

I began the modeling process in ZBrush, starting from the base mesh all the way to the high-poly sculpt. After that, I moved into Maya for retopology and UV mapping. For the most part, I hand-painted the textures in Substance Painter to achieve similar look to the concept. I used Mixamo for a quick rig setup, allowing me to pose the character and apply a walk cycle animation.
Finally, I brought everything into Unreal Engine 5 to showcase how the character would look like in a game engine. Thanks to resources I found online, I was able to get the ILM Map working with the shader, and made some adjustments to achieve the style I was aiming for.
To adding extra detail, I added a Matcap feature in the shader to give certain parts of the model a shiny, metallic feel. For more details on how ILM works, you can check out the GDC talk by Arc System Works on Youtube.
This personal project of mine took quite a bit of time, but I learned a lot throughout the process.
Hope you enjoy it and thanks for checking it out!
